- Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2023Model: MXC 2.0.Verified PurchaseI have owned a Maxiclimber since June 2020. I have been using it consistently throughout the past three years. In 2023, I have been using it daily.
What I like:
- Well, I enjoy working out on the Maxiclimber. I use it at least 30-60 minutes when I hop on. The intensity of the workout is based on how much effort you want to put in, as it is your body weight that is supporting the resistance anyway. I use this machine contorting my body in all different ways as I workout, to target different muscle groups more, and have only slightly tipped over. It well balanced and can handle really hard workouts if you upkeep with it (such as cleaning the the rollers and metal, lubricating the rollers).
- I appreciate that it can fold up for easy storage. While I normally just keep it open, there are times when the weather is nice outside and I want to take my workout outdoors. It's not a problem with the Maxiclimber, and I love to put a long climbing session in when the wind is blowing hard.
- I thought the foam grips might be cheap and not long-lasting when I first purchased the Verticlimber, but they're holding up well and seem suited for gripping I must do to successfully workout. Only one of the foam pads has finally started disintegrating and crumbling. Will just replace the grips with bicycle grips probably.
- It is low impact on your knees and back. I have some slight knee issues and feel no stress on them when using this machine.
What I don't like:
- I don't like how clunky the activity logger on the central part of the machine is. I am 6'0'' and found that my thighs would crash into the plastic casing sometimes when trying to go hard on the machine. I ended up just removing the black plastic case that was mounted to the verticlimber, as my phone can keep the time for me.
- I do not like how wobbly the extended top handles feel sometimes. In certain situations, when gripping the top handles and while working out, the top bars fit inside the connecting base with extra space inside. So if you are pulling down on a stride while climbing, you may hear a clanking sound. This has been happening to my unit since 2023, and I can feel when it happens and try to control it, but when I am exhausted from a tough workout I may not be able to stop the clanking as much as my hands pull down on the handles.
That's it though. The pros of the Verticlimber certainly outweight the cons in my opinion. I was apprehensive of climbing devices when I first started looking for home workout equipment, so settled on this affordable verticlimber. Now, I find myself wanting to use that more than anything else in my house or even going to the gym. I originally though I may want the upgraded version of this unit when mine finally breaks, but why ruin a great experience?
Update: 11/30/2024
I wanted to edit and update my post. The original machine I use still works. My rollers were starting to wear out and I felt a noticeable rumble but I was able to order 6 replacement rollers very easily from the manufacturer for about 17 dollars (with shipping). My cable was starting to wear out and shred apart, but I ordered a new a-style 59" cable from amazon for 6 dollars to replace the original. In total I have spent around 25 dollars to upkeep this Maxiclimber in 4 years of owning it. The machine works very well again and I am impressed at how easily it is to replace worn parts.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2016Model: MXC 2.0.Verified PurchaseThis is a great product, and takes up little space. If you have weak knees then do not take as deep of steps, you can easily control how deep your steps are and control the intensity also this way, deeper being harder. My legs are way stronger after just one week. If you have it at the best height for you then you get full range of motion in step depth, but if you make it taller than you it will reduce your step depth if your holding the arms piece also making it easier for weaker knees. I figured this out the first day I used it and got a great leg workout but my right knee felt a little pain, so now I control my step depth and only go full depth for a short bit, like how on a treadmill you might walk for ten minutes and run for one minute, and this machine has not hurt my knees since. Also I love that it's virtually powerless and uses your own weight. It has one battery that counts your steps but I don't care so I don't even pay attention to its minimal power source. It's also quiet and I can use it while my man watches tv, in fact this machine made my boyfriend start working out with me for the first time in the four years since we met and I always beg him to workout with me. One more thing is that you can make it very easy and controlled by using your arms or hold the stationary lower bars and focus just on your legs. I use many machines and have given away the ones I don't like to family, I don't think anybody will be getting the maciclimber from me, in fact I think I'll give away my small stair stepper machine that I never used and keep the maciclimber that motivates me and I use everyday. Oh best part, I shopped around and waited a couple weeks til it went on sale and I bought mine for $100, but I would have spent $200 for this too, but at $100 I snatched it without hesitation. If I had one complaint, and it's hardly noticeable, if the maker could figure out how to make the bar between the legs even more narrow that would be the one and only improvement I could think of, but it's already pretty narrow but since I'm short I think I notice it more than my msn who is 6 foot, but most of the time I don't even notice it.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2020Model: MXC 2.0.Verified PurchaseI've had this machine for about two weeks now, and I really like it overall.
The pros:
Easy to assemble, and also easy to fold up for storage. It's fairly light, and I have no problem moving it around.
It's a good workout- I'm at a decent fitness level, but right now I can only sustain about 2 minute reps. It works the quads the most, but engages both upper and lower body and core. Twice a week use for only two weeks has already improved my distance runs- both speed and endurance. I've found that you can also sort of adjust what muscle group your are working if you slightly change posture, arm position, or handle length. But your quads will always be engaged.
It's quiet and appears to be holding up. I was a bit worried based on 1 star comments about degradation of the pulley system, but haven't noticed any apparent damage with use on mine. I've been mounting as described on one of the commenter's videos, where you grab one of the arms first and jump up on the opposite pedal, but I'm not sure this is necessary. The movement is smooth.
I've noticed that the price fluctuates a lot on Amazon, but for around $150, I thought it was a really good deal.
Cons:
I'm 5'8" and with the handles extended to the highest setting, the machine is just a hair shy of my full range of motion. It's still a very comfortable workout for me, but someone taller will be limited on their range of motion.
The placement of the timer and rep counter does not allow you to view it during use.
I've found that I need to splay my knees off to the side a bit so that they don't bump the middle of the machine during use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good all round exercise machine
Model: MXC 2.0.Verified PurchaseI used to have a treadmill, which I enjoyed using, and did use regularly, but it was too big to keep long term in the kitchen (it was bought in a rush during lockdown). I opted for this machine because it has a small footprint when fully assembled and ready to use, and folds up even smaller when not in use. Putting the thing together was relatively straightforward, although the pictures in the instruction manual were not great.
In terms of workout, I find a few minutes on this gets my heart pumping in a much shorter time than the treadmill. Still early days, so I have started doing 5 minutes a day, and building up gradually. This works my upper body as well as my legs, unlike the treadmill. The first couple of times was very hard work, but now in the swing of it, and glad I persevered. Fingers crossed I don't have any of the issues experienced by other users.
For the price, this is excellent value for money, so I am very pleased.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eccezionale
Model: MXC 2.0.Verified PurchaseMaxi climber è arrivato in anticipo e l’ho subito provato. Da allora lo uso tutti i giorni e devo dire che ha superato le mie aspettative. L’attrezzo è robusto e non molto ingombrante. Per quanto riguarda l’allenamento, lavorano soprattutto le gambe ma anche la parte superiore del corpo. Promosso a pieni voti.

5.0 out of 5 stars Full workout in simplicity
Model: MXC 2.0.Verified PurchaseAfter 2 months of using this machine, I can definitely say that this was an investment that I am certainly seeing satisfactory results. I received this equipment before COVID 19 lockdown and at that point I realized that this is my saving grace since the gym would no longer be an option. So my journey began with just 5-7 minutes per day, 5 days a week, because I underestimated how much it causes you to burn.
Each week I progressed by adding more time to my workout. Today, I am clocking 1 hour sessions each workout. With the right music to pump you up and the Youtube MaxiClimber workout videos the time passes really fast. Since I started I have lost 3/4 of an inch from my waist. I am 5"3 and 118 lbs of winter fat. I wanted to burn at least 5 lbs but with my quarantine diet and snacking my weight remains the same but my waistline and my body is toning nicely.
If I should have a comment on negatives I would say that:
- standing on those pedals after 1 hour does hurt the balls of your feet.
- had to request replacement lower handle bars because the original would not fit in the slot. Got the new ones in 2 weeks
- it best not to exercise on a carpet because friction during exercise causes the metal to shave off. There is usually metal dust all over the floor.
- it does make a considerable amount of noise, at one point I thought it was broken.
- you need to go straight to the shower once your workout is done. Because in my case it is like a bucket of water was dashed on me.
I boast to my circle of friends about this equipment. All in all for you to get results you will have to dedicate time and passion. This is not an overnight muscle building machine but it does the job well in maintaining a toned structure.
